Mozilla’s Connected Device

Today, the number of mobile devices on people’s hand is much bigger than the half of our population. What do you think? The mobile technology the modern edition radio that was invented by Jagadish Chandra Bose is provides its all intention or will very soon end?      Which is called saturation point reaching or will reach ??

If your answer is yes, then think again, Is any points related to you or all of them?

Electric meter, Gas stove (which constantly burning our ground resources and make it empty, Street lights lamp post, Traffic signal lights, Vehicles (are you paired or unpaired), Is your child went to school, Is he come back, Did he finished his tiffin? What’s the status of your workplace, Is giant machineries of your workplace is working properly? Is all staffs are okay, Have they works properly? What is the status of your merchandise store, Is not the cash register doing any silly stuff with you? Is your manager make you guilty by stealing VAT ?

When I am writing this blog, my cousin “Suhan” might be watching T20 worldcup cricket tournament at TV and at the same time turning on the coffee machine and all things are burned into ashes!!
Now think about the above incidences, places of those incidences, characters of those incidences are merged together by our scientist Jagadish’s radio technology?  Well then our life style might be a little better!

BTW,No more discreet talking, So directly saying that all devices are alike jointed like a smartphone by merging them a little bit, then wire-wireless services will be too late for saturation.

Connected Devices – is next!

Mozilla has adopted Internet of Things (IoT) in the form of connected devices (CD) and since it is a very new and diverse field. Everything is connected around us. This revolution has already started and it will be bigger than previous technology revolutions, including the mobile smartphone revolution. Internet of Things (IoT), as many call it today, will fundamentally affect all of us.

Connected devices a basically the electronics devices which are controlled by internet. You can also call it smart devices and these are also known as Internet of Things.  Mozilla has initiated this program to make the world smarter and simpler.

Privacy Matters and why Mozilla cares about it

#What is online Privacy?

-> Online Privacy is called information privacy, is the aspect of information technology (IT) that deals with the ability an organization or individual has to determine what data in a computer system can be shared with third parties.

#Why Mozilla cares about Privacy

Mozilla is Building a Global Movement to Protect the Free and Open Web.

Mozilla believe the Internet is at its best as a global public resource, open and accessible to all. Mozilla also believe a healthy Internet requires an active, global community. mozilla Advocacy brings together individuals from around the world to educate on and fight for privacy, inclusion and literacy online.

#Why is privacy important?

“I have nothing to hide, so why should I care?”

It doesn’t matter if you have “nothing to hide”. Privacy is a right granted to individuals that underpins the freedoms of expression, association and assembly; all of which are essential for a free, democratic society.

Arguing that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.

– Edward Snowden

Everyone’s trying to track what you do on the Web, it’s no secret that there’s big money to be made in violating your privacy. Sometimes data privacy can be a juggling act in multinational organizations when it comes to fulfilling the needs of the organization and complying with local privacy laws. Ultimately, data privacy boils down to protecting the rights of the individual to prevent others from stealing their identity, knowing their personal information and much more.

*10 Reasons Why Privacy Matters:

  • Limit on Power
  • Respect for Individuals
  • Reputation Management
  • Maintaining Appropriate Social Boundaries
  • Trust
  • Control Over One’s Life
  • Freedom of Thought and Speech
  • Freedom of Social and Political Activities
  • Ability to Change and Have Second Chances
  • Not Having to Explain or Justify Oneself

#Privacy and freedom

Loss of privacy leads to loss of freedom.

Your freedom of expression is threatened by the surveillance of your internet usage – thought patterns and intentions can be extrapolated from your website visits (rightly or wrongly), and the knowledge that you are being surveilled can make you less likely to research a particular topic. You lose that perspective, and your thought can be pushed in one direction as a result. Similarly, when the things you write online, or communicate privately to others, are surveilled, and you self-censor as a result, the rest of us lose your perspective, and the development of further ideas is stifled.

Your freedom of association is threatened by the surveillance of your communications online and by phone, and your freedom of assembly is threatened by the tracking of your location by your mobile phone. Can we afford to risk the benefits of free association, the social change brought by activists and campaigners, or the right to protest?

These freedoms are being eroded, right now. The effects will worsen over time, as each failure to exercise our freedom builds upon the last, and as more people experience the chilling effects.

#What I can do to protect my privacy?

Use HTTPS and SSL Whenever Possible:

  • Always use a secure browser. Look for “https” at the beginning of the web address (the “s” stands for “secure”). Access your accounts from a secure location, using computers and networks that you know are safe and secure.
  • Avoid using public networks and always look for the padlock icon in the corner of the browser, signaling that the website is encrypted.

Create secure Passwords and keep them private:

  • Your passwords should be more than 6 or 6+ characters and contain letters, numbers and special characters.
  • Mix upper and lower case letters.
  • Don’t use personal information (like name or mobile number) or dictionary words.

Use a Master Password to protect stored logins and passwords :

  • Firefox can save usernames and passwords that you use to access online services, such as banking and email websites.
  • If you share a computer with anyone, it is recommended that you use a master password.

Don’t Overshare on Social Media:

  • Go through your privacy settings on each site and determine what is a good amount of privacy protection.
  • Consider keeping your profile limited to only certain groups or friends.
  • Never post your personal information such as Social Security number, date of birth or your full name in a public place.

Use a search engine that does not track you:

  • A search engine that does not collect or share any of your personal information.
  • A search engine which has no search history, profile or anything else stored, sold, or given to third parties. Sounds like no search engine like that exists?
  • Yes, it does. Check out : DuckDuckGo
  • read more about this and why you should be concerned :

Beware of Scammers:

  • If you receive a suspicious email from a business and you’re not sure if it’s legitimate, close the email, open a new browser, type in their web address and contact them through their customer service.
  • You should know that scammers are real and they will try to steal your personal information if they come across it.
  • Never give out your personal information over the Internet, phone, mail or via text message, unless you know exactly who you are dealing with.

Keep yourself safe online. How?

  • Do not reveal personal information inadvertently.
  • Turn on cookie notices in your Web browser, and/or use cookie management software or infomediaries.
  • Don’t reveal personal details to strangers or just-met “friends”.
  • Keep a “clean” e-mail address.
  • Realize you may be monitored at work, avoid sending highly personal e-mail to mailing lists, and keep sensitive files on your home computer.
  • Beware sites that offer some sort of reward or prize in exchange for your data.
  • Do not reply to spammers, for any reason.
  • Be conscious of Web security.
  • Be conscious of home computer security.
  • Examine privacy policies and seals.
  • Remember that YOU decide what information about yourself to reveal, when, why, and to whom

Use encryption!

Firefox for windows has a completely new look .They have made thoughtful tweaks to the interface to give Firefox a streamlined feel. You’ll also notice bigger, bolder design elements as well as more space for viewing the Web.

One of the most important concerns of Mozilla in to protect the privacy of his users.By Introducing Firefox for windows 10 they have added some new features to protect from getting into danger.

Private Browsing with tracking protection: Browse without having your history, searches or cookies saved, and block hidden third parties from following you across the Web.

Awesome Bar: Whatever we search using Firefox awesome bar it not only find it with the URL but also it finds it using the Title of the page. We can get fast and easy access to the features you use most in the new menu. Open the “Customize” panel to add, move or remove any button you want.

Webmaker Kiosk at BIW2015, Sylhet

Bangladesh is a developing country. The current Government has promised the nation to present a fully digital country by 2021. This is currently buzzed as Vision 2021. To materialize this vision of a digital country, the government is greatly focusing on ICT development.

11988514_705480409558403_1929155727118335453_nInternet, the global communication network that allows almost all computers worldwide to connect and exchange information. In Bangladesh, there are over 40 million internet users in the country whom specially use internet through mobile device. People of Bangladesh view internet usage in a limited scope; such as for social networking. So to increase awareness of the life changing capabilities of the internet for every sector, mobile operator Grameenphone and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services(BASIS) with association with the ICT division launched “Bangladesh Internet Week-2015” for the first time. This fair was held at District indoor Stadium, Sylhet on 11th September, 2015. In this massive event, Mozilla Bangladesh also take a part with recent project called ‘Webmaker for Android’ to introduce the user an easier way to conceive their social and economic opportunities and to explode their creative mind.

2015-Webmaker-WebBanners-Vertical-300x600-BanMozilla has been developing tools to help people surf and use the web safely. But, in recent years it has focused on sharing and making on the web. In 2015, Mozilla has introduced a new Android application named Webmaker, which focuses on content sharing on the web, without any prior knowledge of programming or web page generating. The whole app works with simple touch gestures and drag ‘n drop. So, it’s pretty easy to use and almost everyone can use it.

11149587_1198109813551783_4159916636593146140_nOur webmaker exhibited on kiosk, which is a three man standable stall. The number of volunteers of ‘Sylhet Mozillians’ were engaged in and prepared the kiosk with more exquisite way to captivate the interested visitants. We demonstrate the logging process, features to make projects and the technique’s of how to highlight their own project by sharing to social websites.

So, we had to deal with a lot of people, a lot. From the very beginning our kiosk was almost full every minute. We had five volunteers for demonstration and I don’t remember if I saw them sitting or being idle for a single minute. We were asking everyone to get their phone out and download the app then we encouraged them to open an account and made them familiar with the concept and idea behind Webmaker. We face many FAQs of the visitors and it was absolute that their interest towards webmaker dissipates by learning more and more about it. They asked about, how Webmaker is different from other online content sharing platforms, how to share, who can visit their makes, to whom these are visible, will their name will be removed if someone remixes their makes and tons of other interesting questions. We were giving away Sweet Chocolates to every visitors ,pamphlet to a prominent people who visit Mozilla Kiosk, awesome Webmaker stickers, whoever downloaded the app at our kiosk or could show the app installed in their phone!

From my experience, there were 300 people visited to our kiosk and around 100 people installed the webmaker app on that spot.

The whole volunteer team really worked hard as well as we did some recreational fun. The team was full of new Mozillians and I’m happy and honored to lead this effective team. This event was great! With events like this, we can get into the mainstream lot easier. I think we should participate these kinds of events every time we get chance!11988640_127645694251737_8833192584891997361_nFor download this app:

I have organized a few events behalf of Mozilla Bangladesh community up until now. But this event is very special for me because the day before yesterday I have organized my first Mozilla Awareness campaigns in my University.

Leading University is one of the most promising FSA recruitment institute in Sylhet division for Mozilla Bangladesh. But it is sad that only a few volunteers there are familiar with Mozilla Mission and philosophy. So, In last week club meeting we LU FirefoxClub has planned a campaigns for this Summer ’15 semester, which started with the Mozilla Awareness event to aware contributing volunteers as well as to attract NEW FSAs and encourage people to share what makes them say #FoxYeah! and turn that into content for the #FoxYeah hub .

We fixed a date and propose it to the University proctor body. After getting permitted by the University proctor and Head of the CSE department at first we LU FirefoxClub has started MozAwareness Booth at 18th June from 9am to 2pm. It was really great and had a massive response from the Leading University students.

They were so pleased to know about Mozilla and Firefox Student Ambassadors program. About 300 students visited our booth. In booth we talked about Mozilla and it’s philosophy, Firefox Student Ambassadors , Firefox Os, Firefox for Android and Webmaker.

Who wanted to join in Firefox Student ambassador program, we arranged for signup where almost 150 up students signed up and almost 50% of them were from latest batch. We showed them Firefox OS developer preview device. Lots of new registred FSAs downloaded Firefox for Android.

Every new registered FSAs were given cool Firefox stickers and Firefox tattoos. All the new registered FSAs took selfies with cool Firefox and #FoxYeah banner 😀 They were very much exited in Firefox Student Ambassadors program and Webmaker.

At 2pm we closed our booth and at 2:30pm we started our second session which is Mozilla Awareness seminar. 70% new registered FSAs were join there. I explained there about Mozilla Mission and philosophy and FSAs mission.

Then I showed all of them website and told everyone to visit this site and start contributing which area of contribution they like most.  Then I talk with them about #FoxYeah spring campaign and showed them some cool content and video from #FoxYeah website.

1548189_975537385836503_2312840968329926131_oAt seminar there have few interested girls were attended. So I explained there What is WoMoz and What is WoMoz mission. Then We talk with them and planed to create a WoMoz group in our FirefoxClub.

Then Tushar Chakraborty brother shared with us to his last SuMo Bangladesh meetup experience. He also showed how we can contribute in Mozilla location service and Mozilla Support centre. Then he planed to create a SuMo Team and MozStumbling squad in our FirefoxClub.
